Essential oils are the fragrant and volatile extracts (or essence) from the flowers, leaves, roots and bark of aromatic plants.  Each oil is unique and highly concentrated.  Their aromas have been shown to affect our moods and emotions.  They can help with relaxation, stress-relief, sleep and anxiety as well refreshing and reviving us.  Importantly, they can play a positive role in improving our wellbeing.

Here are the main essential oils we use in ARORA products: 

Bergamot – Citrus Aurantium Bergamia

An aromatherapy favourite this oil has a balancing effect on body and mind.  Soothing and cooling, bergamot is ideal for dry or itchy skin conditions, and its fruity aroma helps to elevate a low mood, enhancing wellbeing.

The sweet aroma of bergamot acts as an anti-depressant by balancing mood and easing anxiety.  A perfect mix with lavender for a relaxing blend.

Clary Sage – Salvia sclarea

Renowned for uplifting the mind and emotions, clary sage also has a tonic effect on many body systems.  It can revive tired muscles, and lifts depression and calms nerves, creating a sense of peace.  Useful to return to vitality after illness.

Eucalyptus – Eucalyptus globulus

This warming and antiseptic oil is great for relieving aches and pains as well as healing insect bites and stings.  The oil tones and balances the skin and its sharp aroma helps increase concentration and lift feelings of depression.  Improves focus, refreshes the mind, banishing headaches and improving concentration.

Ginger – Zingeber officinale

Revives a tired mind, comforting and warming, ginger essential oil helps to lift feelings of general fatigue and is also reviving when you are suffering from nervous fatigue or mental confusion.  Boosts circulation.

Ho Wood – Cinnamomum camphora

Stimulating, relaxing and nourishing.  Emotionally uplifting and calming for the mind.  Thought to help nourish and support.

Lavender – Lavandula angustifolia

Versatile and popular oil, lavender has a calming fragrance and is particularly renowned for its ability to relax and promote restful sleep.  Its rejuvenating and soothing effects make it an effective skin treatment and a good skin healer.  Deeply relaxing, lavender helps reduce stress levels and anxiety and is a popular remedy for promoting restful sleep.

Lemon – Citrus limonum

Fresh and invigorating, lemon stimulates the senses and clears the mind.  Detoxifying and toning, the oil lends itself naturally to massage blends and skin products. Lifts moods, a cheerful deodorizing scent lemon is great for busy days when you need mental focus and positivity.

Mandarin – Citrus reticulata/citrus nobilis

Enhances wellbeing, a gentle relaxing yet uplifting oil, mandarin is especially good for calming restless children.  Its sweet cheerful aroma is almost instantly uplifting.


Neroli – Citrus aurantium

The blossom of the bitter or Seville orange tree is the source of a calming, refreshing and uplifting oil that has long been considered a treatment for anxiety and depression.  It is intense yet refreshing and light, and a component of Eau de Cologne.

Has a long history as a remedy for anxiety, its power to balance and revive makes it a first choice in cases of acute shock, it alleviates the effects of chronic stress on the adrenal, circulatory  and digestive systems.

Sweet Orange – Citrus sinensis

Versatile oil is widely used for its uplifting and detoxifying effects.  It is also calming.  Cheerful and familiar its aroma acts as a reviving tonic.  Aids detox, a detoxifying and cleansing effect.  Relieves anxiety, has a sweet uplifting scent that can calm nervous tension, lift feelings of depression and promote restful sleep in cases of insomnia.

Patchouli – Pagostemon cablin

Enhances wellbeing.  The oil acts as an anti-depressant and is useful for treating exhaustion, stress and anxiety.  It is also used as an aphrodisiac. A tried and tested aromatherapy favourite.

Peppermint – Mentha piperita

Applied to the skin, peppermint feels initially cooling and refreshing, then gently warming.  Its stimulating and analgesic properties make it an effective remedy for neuralgia and muscular pains and headaches.  It is also a first-class antiseptic and a popular addition to all types of beauty products.

Rose Geranium – Pelargonium graveolens

A cheerful oil, it has a balancing, cooling and reviving effect on skin.  It is a mild diuretic making it a useful aid to detox. Balances emotions.  Both calming and uplifting, geranium makes a natural antidepressant.  It can reduce restlessness and help to treat anxiety.

Rosemary – Rosemarinus officinalis

Toning and cleansing, helps to clear the mind.  Aids detox. The oil stimulates both the circulation and the lymphatic system.  Improves focus, stimulates the nervous system and helps to improve memory, concentration and mental alertness.  The oil has a reviving effect when you are feeling tired, debilitated or lethargic which makes it extremely useful remedy for jet lag.

Turmeric – Curcuma longa

Believed to help uplift, energise, comfort and strengthen the body and mind

Ylang Ylang – Cananga odorata

With its exotic highly floral aroma, ylang ylang is uplifting and arousing, and at the same time eases feelings of anxiety.  Aids relaxation.  Stimulating and calming, ylang ylang essential oil is well placed for increasing feelings of wellbeing.  Its calming properties have demonstrable effects, helping to lower blood pressure and breathing rates, in return reducing feelings of anxiety.
